What to do before you arrive
- Knocked-out adult tooth – hold it by the top (not the root), keep it moist in milk or in your mouth next to your cheek, and call us straight away.
- Broken tooth – rinse your mouth with warm water and keep any pieces.
- Swelling – use a cold compress on the outside of your face. If swelling is spreading quickly or affects your breathing or swallowing, call 111.
- Toothache – rinse with warm salt water and take pain relief as directed on the packet until you see us.

Dental injuries and ACC
If your dental emergency was caused by an accident or injury, ACC may help with the cost. We provide initial and follow-up ACC consultations and x-rays with no surcharge. Learn more about ACC and WINZ treatment.
